Halton JAZZ Choir Singers are fresh back from the a cappella SING! FESTIVAL, held last weekend in the Distillery District, in the heart of Toronto. Such notable groups as, Cadence, Retrocity, The Watch, and a special Nylons reunion concert as well as master classes and vocal percussion workshops were on the weekend’s roster of events. Alan Frew, composer of the song, “I Believe,” Dan Hill, Lorraine Segato and other notable artists lent their talent to the weekend line up of shows.
HJC Singers were fortunate to spend more than an hour with Micah Barnes: The experience was well worth it! Micah Barnes, former singer with the Nylons, now a jazz performer & vocal coach. By all accounts, the most fun was had while Micah choreographed the song, “Java Jive.” Singers felt at ease! They learned a great deal from this skilled performer! The trek into Toronto was highlighted by the detours around the closed Gardner Expressway & Don Valley Parkway and the diverted Toronto public Transit System. However, this challenging commute didn’t deter Halton based singers from a very worthwhile and enjoyable experience. “We would do it over again, in a heart beat!” They all agreed!
For specially invited friends, family and partners, HJC Singers are ready to ‘preview’ their show, “Swing Into Summer!” The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 11th at Christian Scientist Church (2522 Rebecca Street, Oakville). This special preview is by invitation only! Invites should RSVP by 5 p.m., Monday June 9th.
